The core holdings of the Sammlung Friedrichshof (Friedrichshof Collection) form one of the largest private collections of historical works of Viennese Actionism from the years 1956 to 1976. There have been solo exhibitions and publications highlighting important international allies of the Viennese Actionists – such as Allan Kaprow and Carolee Schneemann – since 2010. In 2011 the museum at the Friedrichshof in Zurndorf was redesigned by the architect Adolf Krischanitz, with a branch project space “Stadtraum” opening on Schleifmühlgasse in Vienna’s gallery district in 2012. Since then, the core holdings of the Friedrichshof Collection have been accompanied by contextual juxtapositions. The collection’s programme also foregrounds positions previously overlooked in Austria, which nonetheless correspond in terms of performance and thematic preoccupations, through solo exhibitions by artists such as Paul McCarthy, Ion Grigorescu and Bjarne Melgaard. These were joined by further solo exhibitions – Rita Ackermann, Brener/Schurz, Helmut Lang, Denisa Lehocka, Yasumasa Murimura and Marcel Odenbach.
